|Jul-30-15||Governor Names Francis Idehen to Board of Trustees||
On July 27, Gov. Rauner appointed Francis Idehen, Jr. to a six-year term on the SURS Board of Trustees. His appointment must be approved by the Illinois Senate.
Idehen is vice president for Investor Relations at Exelon Corporation, where he is responsible for developing and implementing the company’s strategic investor relations program. Previously, Idehen was the managing director of Exelon’s Private Investments Organization, a senior portfolio manager at Intel Corporation, and an associate at Lehman Brothers.
|Jul-28-15||Steven Rock Selected Board Trustee||
Steven M. Rock has been chosen to fill an elected active-member seat on the SURS Board of Trustees that was vacant due to a trustee’s resignation in April 2015. Rock was elected by a majority vote of the remaining five elected trustees. His term runs through July 15, 2018.
|Jun-02-15||SURS Retiree Insurance Refunds Being Processed; To Be Completed By June 15||
SURS has received funds from the Illinois Department of Central Management Services (CMS) to pay health insurance refunds to retirees and survivors in the State of Illinois Group Health Insurance Plan. Payments are being processed and will be finalized by the June 15, 2015, deadline.
|May-08-15||State Supreme Court Finds Pension Reform Law Unconstitutional||
The Illinois Supreme Court today issued a unanimous decision affirming the Sangamon County Circuit Court’s decision that Public Act 98-599 is unconstitutional.
The ruling does not alter the administration of SURS, as no changes had been implemented from the pension reform law due to the stay ordered by Judge Belz of the Sangamon County Circuit Court.
“SURS remains committed to serving members and fulfilling our mission statement of securing and delivering the retirement benefits promised to our members,” said Executive Director W. Bryan Lewis.
|May-04-15||J. Fred Giertz Elected to SURS Board of Trustees||
J. Fred Giertz has been elected to serve a six-year term on the SURS Board of Trustees by the System’s annuitant members. His term begins July 15, 2015.
Trustee Giertz is a professor emeritus of economics at the University of Illinois in Urbana- Champaign. He previously served on the SURS Board from 1995-2005 as an appointed member and from 2009-2012 as an elected active member.
|May-01-15||Benefit Choice Enrollment Period Begins May 1||
The Fiscal Year 2016 Benefit Choice Period is May 1 through June 1, 2015, for SURS active members as well as annuitants and survivors not enrolled in the Medicare Advantage 'TRAIL' Program. This is the only time of the year, other than when you experience a "qualifying change in status," that you may change your coverage.

|Apr-06-15||SURS Announces Board Vacancy||
State Universities Retirement System (SURS) Executive Director W. Bryan Lewis today announced a vacancy on the SURS Board of Trustees. The elected active (contributing) -member seat will be filled by a majority vote of the other five elected trustees on or before June 1, 2015.
|Apr-01-15||SURS Board Election April 1 - May 1||
SURS is currently holding an election to fill one annuitant-member seat on the Board of Trustees. Only annuitant members are allowed to vote. Election packets have been mailed to eligible members.
Two candidates are vying for the seat – J. Fred Giertz and Mitchell R. Vogel. Members may vote for one candidate.
