Champaign, IL – The Executive Committee of the State Universities Retirement System (SURS) Board of Trustees on Thursday, May 26, 2016, pursuant to a request for information, selected Chicago-based Heidrick & Struggles International, Inc. (HSII) to assist in a national search for candidates to fill SURS executive director position. Upon completion of a contract, SURS will work with HSII to determine the position specifications, advertising and timeline development. The Board expects to have final candidates for the position within 120 days after entering into a contract with the firm.
Current Executive Director W. Bryan Lewis is leaving SURS for a position with the Pennsylvania State Employees' Retirement System effective at the end of June. Former SURS Executive Director William Mabe will be hired on an interim basis to serve as executive director during the transition period.
Lyndon Taylor, partner in charge at Heidrick & Struggles, will serve as the lead consultant to SURS.
SURS is also in the process of conducting a search for a new chief investment officer (CIO). At the recommendation of HSII, which is also conducting the CIO search, the selection of the CIO will be put on hold pending the appointment of the new executive director.
