SURS has received funds from the Illinois Department of Central Management Services (CMS) to pay health insurance refunds to retirees and survivors in the State of Illinois Group Health Insurance Plan. Payments are being processed and will be finalized by the June 15, 2015, deadline.
The Fiscal Year 2016 Benefit Choice Period is May 1 through June 1, 2015, for SURS active members as well as annuitants and survivors not enrolled in the Medicare Advantage 'TRAIL' Program.
Sangamon County Circuit Court Judge Steven Nardulli has awarded fees and costs in the amount of $1,502,011.00 to attorneys who litigated the Kanerva v. Weems case (No. 115811).
Affected SURS members will soon receive a letter and form explaining their rights and opt-out option in the “percent of annuity” insurance premium settlement (i.e., Kanerva v. Weems).
The State of Illinois offers annuitants and survivors a healthcare program called Total Retiree Advantage Illinois (TRAIL). The 2015 plan year started January 1, 2015, and will run through December 31, 2015.
State retirees and survivors will no longer be required to pay a percentage of their annuity for health insurance premiums following a ruling by the Sangamon County Circuit Court.
