SURS Approves $50 Million Real Asset Commitment, Reports 17.9% Return for 2019

Champaign, IL - The State Universities Retirement System (SURS) Board of Trustees on March 13 approved a commitment of $50 million to Crow Holdings Realty Partners Fund IX, subject to successful contract negotiations.

The board also voted to retain Bivium Capital to manage a global credit fixed-income manager of emerging managers program with funding from the complete transfer of the global credit fixed income portfolio currently managed by Progress Investment Management Company, subject to successful contract negotiations.

Hendrie Appointed to SURS Board

Champaign, IL – Gov. Pritzker has appointed Scott Hendrie of Savoy to serve on the State Universities Retirement System (SURS) Board of Trustees.

Hendrie is vice president of finance and treasury at the Carle Foundation, serving on both their Retirement Plan and Health and Welfare Committees. He is a member of the Carle Illinois College of Medicine Joint Liaison Committee and a Board Observer for Ascension Ventures IV, L.P. Previously, he worked for First Busey Corporation, a financial holding company, for 15 years. 

State Universities Retirement System Board Meetings

Champaign, IL - The Investment Committee, Administration Committee, Audit & Risk Committee, Legal & Legislative Committee and the Board of Trustees of the State Universities Retirement System (SURS) will hold meetings on Thursday, March 12, and Friday, March 13, 2020, at the SURS office,1901 Fox Drive in Champaign and at SURS NIU Naperville Outreach Center, 1120 E. Diehl Road in Naperville.

Governor Plans to Fully Fund Pension Contributions, Add Extra $100 Million, Uphold Retiree Benefits

Champaign, IL - In his fiscal year 2021 budget address Wednesday, Gov. Pritzker said he plans to provide the full certified state contributions to all five state-funded retirement systems including SURS, the Teachers’ Retirement System, the State Employees’ Retirement System, and the Judges’ and General Assembly Retirement Systems.

The FY 2021 certified state contribution to SURS is $1,995,767,000. The FY 2020 contribution is $1,854,692,000. SURS has received its full certified contribution from the state for the last seven years.

SURS Approves Global Equity Manager

Champaign, IL - The State Universities Retirement System (SURS) Board of Trustees on Jan. 30 approved the FIS Group to coordinate the transfer of the existing Progress Non-US equity portfolio to a global equity manager of emerging managers program, subject to successful completion of legal negotiations.

A request for proposal was issued in November 2019 for firms to provide diversified global equity strategies. Additional firms will be considered later this year with the help of SURS general investment consultant Meketa.
